Coverage Day 1

First day at the Summer Nationals went fairly well, aside from playing in the rain and having threats of major hail approaching. The hail never actually got us but we joined in the panic to appear nervous like all other car owners in the attendance. (Thoughts of dimples in our show car’s owner and him coming after us with a large blunt object did wander through our minds)…

Even with the rain there was a very large turnout for opening day at CCSN.  The weather is reported to be very nice Saturday and Sunday and with huge numbers of entrants, we are expecting to keep ourselves .very busy!  Traffic at the booth was good with great interest in the 6P, 6S, Extreme Plus and Pro-PLUS systems. Rick Elam and Dutch Miller were on hand to answer questions and comments about what applications customers could or would be fitting.  We pointed at the 1969 Pontiac Grand Pre to our left and a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro with Baer’s 6S Extreme-PLUS (installed both on the front AND the rear) located on our right. The calipers were the hard anodized and the paint on the car was nearly an exact match for the caliper color. Steve (the owner) claims that it was “just a lucky coincidence”, we sure like to think so.

Our webmaster (Jon) was out in full force running the Baer Brake Speed Stop Challenge, and while having a few startup problems, they were quickly overcome and all went very well. We’d like to extend a BIG thanks to the event staff, especially Eric and Chip for all their support in setting up this event. Also a big thanks goes out to the driver of the Dart Swinger for help test and calibrate our systems.  Between dodging raindrops and trying to not get blown away, the event was able to start rolling (or should we say STOPPING) by around 1pm.  For day one of the BBSSC we had 17 vehicles try their hand at the challenge, ranging from slightly modified to all out race cars.  There was plenty of excitement and energy in the air as cars roared to 60mph from a dead stop, and then passing braking line at 60mph and come to a screeching halt as quickly as possible.  Jeff Smith from Car Craft Magazine was on hand as well along our very own Jon Via to provide tips and guidance to contestants on how to lower their braking distance, and most contestants were able to shave 10-15 feet from their stopping distance!  Many of the vehicles appearing in the challenge were early model Camaro’s, Maurader’s, Impala’s and Mustangs.

Here are the current results for day #1:

Coverage Day 2 and 3
Saturday and Sunday has always been very well attended by spectators and vehicle exhibitors alike, and this year carried the same tradition!  The traffic at the Baer display was very heavy Saturday and steady Sunday.  Car Guys are still very anxious to turn their cars into what they dreamed about, and many of the folks we talked to came from several hundred miles away, despite the increased travel cost.  We fielded inquiries about everything from 37-48 Ford front ends to current model trucks with nothing missed in between. We even received a couple of AMX inquiries!

The Baer Stop Challenge was well received and a great learning experience for the Family Event's crew, as well as the CCSN participants.  Unfortunately there was one incident on Sunday, but the driver walked away shaken but healthy with no injuries!  Here are the results from Saturday and Sunday:
